Myth
Eating tomatoes regularly will protect you from prostate cancer.
Fact
Lycopene, the compound abundant in cooked tomatoes, has shown some association with reduced prostate cancer risk in observational studies, but evidence is not strong enough to call tomatoes a proven preventive food.
Lycopene is a carotenoid antioxidant found in high concentrations in tomatoes, particularly when cooked or processed.
